CBD products come in isolate, broad-spectrum of full spectrum. Which kind meets your CBD needs? Here is an explanation of the three available options for this popular cannabinoid. We answer CBD Types: What Is An Isolate, Broad-Spectrum & Full-Spectrum CBD?
What is a Cannabinoid Isolate?
An isolate is when only one cannabinoid, such as CBD, is extracted from the Hemp. The intention of using a CBD isolate is to avoid THC. Not all isolates are bad, but the method of extraction can impair the CBD. For example, chemical processes can bleach the CBD and remove the precious nutrients.
Another practice is using questionably sourced or heavily processed CBD isolates. CBD Isolates are so highly processed that they lose valuable CBD nutrients such as CBG.
Choosing an isolate is the best way to avoid any trace of THC, but it is important to understand the method of extraction to ensure that the nutrients are preserved.
CBD Types: What is a Broad-Spectrum CBD?
Broad-Spectrum refers to a CBD that is not an isolate, but not a full-spectrum CBD.
The benefit of Broad Spectrum is it has more compounds and nutrients, but may contain THC traces. THC is a cannabinoid that is psychoactive. The FDA requires all products to have no more than a very low level
Broad-spectrum is a good middle ground to get the compound benefits with the least potential of side effects.
CBD Types: What is a Full-Spectrum CBD?
A full-spectrum CBD contains the most cannabinoids, but the highest potential for a very low level of THC traces.
A full-spectrum CBD has the advantage of the entourage effect.
The entourage effect is when biologically active compounds can have enhanced biological activity when administered in combination with other compounds. This is an advantage of a full-spectrum CBD which contains multiple cannabinoids.
If you want to use a full-spectrum CBD product, ask the brand for a Certificate of Analysis or a third-party lab report that shows proof of which cannabinoids are contained in what quantity. This way you know exactly what you are getting.
